Dr. B.J. Palmer, D.C., PhC. (1881-1961)
In the early 1930’s Dr. B.J. Palmer of Davenport Iowa, announced to the world a remarkable new concept of natural health care: Correction of ATLAS vertebra misalignment.
Medical doctors called it “quackery.”
Patients called it a “miracle.”
Dr. Palmer proved it through strict scientific research... and through extraordinary RESULTS!
Dr. Palmer was one of the world's most unheralded geniuses.
In 1935, he established the B.J. Palmer Research Clinic in Davenport, Iowa. It was here that he proved scientifically that specific correction of the ATLAS restored health to the human body, by balancing the skeletal frame.
Dr. Palmer proved through clinically controlled research that when the ATLAS shifted out of position, it caused body imbalance. He also proved that body imbalance caused interference to nerve flow to areas of the entire body. Between 1935 and 1961, Dr. B.J. Palmer and his staff restored health to thousands of people through specific chiropractic correction of the upper neck.
Nearly 80 years after his ATLAS research, the American medical establishment is finally taking notice. The fact that his developments were largely ignored for so long is pitiful.
Truly a man “ahead of his time,” Dr. Palmer will someday be recognized by the entire world for the genius that he was. He is without a doubt, one of the most important people of the 20th century. I was motivated by Dr. Michael Kale to become an atlas expert, as he recommended that I read Dr. Palmer's 40 books on chiropractic. His pioneering work gave rise to future developments by upper cervical specialists such as Dr. Michael Kale (1939-2001), Dr. John Grostic and Dr. Roy Sweat.
Today’s Atlas Orthogonal care (developed by Dr. Roy Sweat) is the pinnacle of scientific development and precision in the field of chiropractic atlas correction.
All patients of chiropractic across the world owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. B.J. Palmer.

It is with great pride that I acknowledge my mentor, Dr. Roy Sweat – a remarkable humanitarian, a brilliant doctor and scientist…The Inventor of the Atlas Orthogonal Procedure.
Dr. Roy Sweat is a 1950 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic. He took Dr. B.J. Palmer’s pioneering work to another level. In 1970,
Dr. Sweat designed the Atlas Orthogonal Percussion Adjusting Instrument and has developed a series of seven different models. In 1981, he created the Atlas Orthogonal Post-Doctoral Certification Program—a series of specialized educational seminars. Dr. Sweat has written several books on the Atlas and has over 30 published articles. He has also designed specialized x-ray equipment and is developing a computerized x-ray analysis program. Dr. Sweat is an associate professor at Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Georgia and is associated with their research program. Dr. Sweat's programs have been presented to and endorsed by C.H. Suh, Ph. D. of the University of Colorado. He is listed in the Who's Who In Leading Professionals & Executives.
Dr. Roy Sweat is one of the most delightful people I’ve ever met, and one of the best doctors in the world. I’m so grateful to have had the privilege to be his student.
